Buiding Towers On Top of Ruins
Friends of My Hope & Anchor...
So it is clear that I gradually lost my steam for personal blogging right around the time I rolled up my sleeve to create a new group. In fact I created this blog as a way to keep myself looking, thinking, writing after My Favorite ended. To that end, I quite enjoyed it. Below you'll see the current Secret History news which we are quite excited about! In addition, I've decided to start a new blog in May around the time of the release. This new blog will be more concentrated on beginning conversations about art, music, theory, power, faith...basically anything of concrete consequence to the human condition. The irony of a personal blog for a reader, is that it is a bit like having an attractive but ultimately self-involved boyfriend or girlfriend. They seduce by revealing what they need to, but leave voids when the need passes. I guess the need has passed for me to keep an on-line diary, but its replaced by a desire to really throw some roundhouse punches are the steady decline of Western Civ, Democracy, and indie music.
I'll keep updates here on when and where this new blog shall show up...but as always you can find the most current info on me/us at www.myspace.com/friendsofthesecrethistory

Dearest Dears,
It is with great pleasure that we announce that The Secret History has signed on with the Le Grand Magistery label to release their debut recording, a 5 song e.p. tentatively titled “Desolation Town.” LGM is a label that we’ve been fans of for a long time, having brought artists as acclaimed and diverse as Momus, Stars, Baxendale and Pas/Cal to the ears of discerning, troubled pop fans everywhere.

The e.p. will feature tracks previewed on-line in their early forms, plus the single (and much whispered about live favorite) “It’s Not The End of World, Jonah,” and an epic jangle-y ballad called “Palermo.” We’re hoping for a late Spring release for this lovingly designed first course. We’re already knee deep into recording what's next, a full length featuring 11 more songs, a couple of them resurrected and invented from the last unreleased sessions of our previous pop group…so the next year will feature a Russian novels worth of sense remembered art rock, maudlin pop hits and seasick sailors ballads. The Secret History in other words…In other news, please mark your calendars as we return to the stage on Thursday March 27 at the famous Galapagos art space in Williamsburg Brooklyn. It is the debut of a traveling party we’ve created called “Modern Problems,” and features performances by The Secret History, The Isles (a UK fave, and one of NYC best rainy pop bands) and The Exeter Popes, who also are quite stirring. In addition, our favorite DJs Miss Mondo and Kevington are on board for dancing or at least standing happily. The first 25 punters will also receive a limited edition “Jonah CMYK” 4 badge set featuring untitled film stills from the world that never was...they are quite lovely if I do say so myself. More details to come…

Speaking of djs…The Secret History will also be playing the triumphant 4th anniversary of the Mondo dance party at Don Hills in the West Village of Manhattan of Friday May 16th. It promises to be a blow out, a blast and anything else explosive which isn’t also frightening. www.mondo-nyc.com

TSH on stage, on Myspace...
Dearest Historians,
A reminder to those in New York, that The Secret History makes its return to the stage THIS FRIDAY October 19th! It is a special Never Mind The CMJ week blow-out at the fantastic Mondo dance party at Don Hills! No CMJ badge is needed, and admission is free with the printed out homepage from the Mondo website www.mondo-nyc.com
Otherwise it is just $5! More details at the bottom of this message...
This show will feature us debuting new songs about Sicilian misanthropes, and perplexing references to Marlene Deitrich. Lights will flash, guitars will buzz, and afterwards all will dance till' the wee hours of morn to the best indie, twee, post-punk and such. Tracks you will not hear at other nights with names one cannot say in front of one's mum.
As for the rest of the globe, we are finishing up our debut e.p, tentatively titled 'The End of Music' or 'Ghost Town Armory' or 'Grey Glitter' (perhaps we could take a vote?) whose release is still shrouded in mystery. We've put up another song from it on our dreaded myspace site...

and a third track, "The Ballad of The Haunted Hearts," will be added in about a week or so. The single itself, you will have to wait a bit longer for. But I promise you, it could be worth it. A video with japanese subtitles is also in the works.

Dearest Augustines,
A reminderfor those NYC-ers that The Secret History will be playing our first headlining show, beneathe a ragged chadelier in a small ballroom behind an excellent bar in Wiliamsburg this upcoming THURSDAY evening August 23rd. All these spaces are part of what's commonly known as Union Pool. www.myspace.com/unionpool

Lord help me if I have to type the word 'myspace' again!
Oh...yeah and you should all visit the new Secret History myspace site if you haven't already and hear a mix of a song called 'Our Lady of Pompeii,' and add yourself as a friend if you take part in that sort of thing. www.myspace.com/friendsofthesecrethistory
Alas we will be taking the stage round 11-ish, but the whole evenings entertainment is fab, plus outdoor drinking, b & w photobooths, a whole plethora of pleasure. The cover is $7.
Show number four promises to be the best yet, as the mope/glam rock opera we are paper mache-ing out of scraps of love letters and half hearted suicide notes begins to take shape. A shape which just happens to resemble (metaphorically speaking) a heart broken Montgomery Clift leaving Elizabeth Taylor's place for the last time.
So join us...surrounded as we are by ghosts, saints, runaways, death mods, and nightmares...as we figure out how to save our lives.
